About Microsoft Entra B2B Direct Connect
Microsoft Entra B2B Direct Connect enables a direct connection between two organizations exclusively for shared Microsoft Teams channels. Unlike classic B2B collaboration, no guest accounts are created in the target tenant. Instead, users maintain their original identity and remain stay within their home tenant throughout the collaboration.
Access restrictions & permissions for B2B Direct Connect users
- Users have access exclusively to content and resources within the shared Teams channel
- There is no access to the broader team, other Teams channels, or additional Microsoft resources such as the Azure Portal
The following permissions are granted to users from the external organization:
- Read and write messages in shared channels
- Participate in calls and meetings within shared channels
- Access and collaborate on shared files in the channel
- Use apps provisioned within the channel
- Limited visibility of user profiles (name, profile picture, email address)
- Restricted read permissions for channel information
- Users can view the channel name, description, member list, groups, and enabled apps
- Users cannot modify directory objects or access sensitive organizational details
